@rykbrown If "Ton" means battle platform and "Jar" means battleship, what prefixes do the Jung use on their cruisers, destroyers, and frigates?
Do we know for sure that those prefixes mean that? They could be denominations in size like kilo- and mega- or they could be related to any number of other naming conventions... Because we dont have any other information on their society aside from the military we can't really be sure, heck on the surface of the home world you might be able to order either the Jar or Ton pizza depending on how many you want to serve... I dont know that we heard the names of any of the other ships though to get back to your point. It will be interesting to see how the Jung get fleshed out in the coming part, i think we will gain a lot of internal information over the course of the next 15 books!
In Part 1, every platform had to prefix "Ton" before the rest of its name. Likewise, every battleship had the prefix "Jar" before the rest of its name. So those words have to signify a category of warship.
I do not think that the Jung name they're smaller ships. So there is that.
Oh I am not arguing that they use those prefixes for those ships and that they signify those particular ship classes, i am just not sure that we have enough information to say that Ton = battle platform and Jar = battleship. From the information we have it is certainly implied, but without more cultural and linguistic information we cant know that ton doesn't also signify "large multi-spoke wheel of destruction" that can also be applied to a particular form of Jungian meat pastry with extremely hot chile's... But i think Four islands is right that the smaller ships have not been named yet but we were told that the cruisers in the Cetian space dock were not going to get names from the Jung until they finished work on them so they do get names...
Those were Frigates! huh! I was sure I read that the smaller ships didnt get names! but I think I do remember reading that too that they got named when completed. Fair enough
