Well, shoot.  I was hoping for late March or mid April.  This next book should be a doosy, as things have been going rather well for the crew.

Okay, speculation for the next book.

Will the Alliance finally catch up with the Aurora?

Will there be another expansion of the shipping network?

Will the descendants of the Jung come to the rescue of the Free Fleet?

How much trouble with our ancient journalist get into?  Will she finally meet the AI or figure out who started the Biodigital Plague.

Just thoughts

@vogel I have been waiting on the Jung since book 3. I think they will be a major player, most likely a source of man power as the free fleet have the hardware, but no bodies use it. Won’t be the next book, but maybe 2 or 3 out. We probably find them soon, but not much more than that. Still disappointed that the platforms won’t be loaded to the gills with freedom missiles. Would have been a great way to get the Jung into the free fleet.

as far as the AI, that has to be the next episode. Seems like it’s all pirate hunting this time around. Final confrontation seems to focused arourd Jorim and crew. But maybe I’m missing something?

Excellent installment. Josh is the best example of what a ranger should be.

@paulalemon I wouldn’t go that far. It was an ok book. 100% a set up for the end of this episode, so a little build up and moving pieces around. Light on action and main conflict. Looking forward to the next book to see where the end will go.

@telleshelmet I agree, it was a fair book.  It seems that after all the myriad things in the first couple books, nothing has really happened.  I understand the setup for the rest of the series, but it seems the Korsan have went out with a whimper, and the Alliance has agreed to a gentleman's treaty.  Kit and Mori fanboying over Josh was not to my taste, and that is definitely a setup piece.  I do not get why it is taking so long to make headway on the other three ships, with no real issues.  Deliza is over the top, and although I like Tug being back, he is being left out of a lot.  Robert Nash would be a good side story.  And, I am getting overly bored with Jessica's snark and nothing else.

The last scene of the book, with Josh bonding with the kid and his mom (a few chapters after he stated to never have been in love) … is just me or Ryk might be setting up a love story there?

If so I can almost imagine a scene with Jessica chanting “Josh got a girlfriend” like a schoolgirl in front of Nathan, Marcus, Loki, Josh, and the rest of the inner circle,  meanwhile the old man shakes his head in a “I can’t believe it” mood, Loki laughs, and Telles palms Josh's shoulders (how is beetle red)

(I created the account so I can post this)

@marianok This was a setup book, but seems like the last 2 or 3 books were all setup books.  I am not sure what is coming, but it will probably be huge.  I am confused as to why they have not sent anyone to another galaxy just to look around.  See if there are any intelligent species out there.  At least probes.  I still believe the Alliance A.I.s or the group that created the biotech virus from the fall is still around and waiting on a reason to kill off humanity again.  So many paths.

Maybe this is an obvious answer, but it’s been years between books for me. Hope this is not a spoiler about the identity of the bad guy across the ages / series.

Spoiler maybe?

Spoiler?

Is Jorim Perona really the various antagonists from prior series? He has lived a long time …centuries at least. He remembers Nathan and hates him. Is he Captain Dubnyk from the first series — the old man the Aurora rescued from suspended animation in drifting ship. Krispin Dubnyk, right?  That old guy began to look younger and stole a ship from Haven in book 1-7  and later traded jump tech with the Jung Lord Dusahn for something — maybe a bigger ship.  In Book 7 location K1863, Lord Dusahn states that it was fortuitous that he granted an "Audience with an old man selling miracles".

Is he Maximillian Seneh from the second series. An evil waste of space. He certainly has reason to hate Nathan. And we never saw him die. Did we?

Is he possibly also the AI who started the bio-digital plague and is commanded to ensure his own survival in Fall of the Core? OR if not, did he program the AI??
