If we took a missile housing, and removed the interior, put in a ZPM (Or, just put an energy bank in it, which is less dangerous), rotation thrusters, and a Mk 3 or 4 plasma turret, we could create a defense turret that is able to be deployed by a ship and provide different angles of offense, etc.
The Aurora could carry at least 20 of these, which could be deployed around the battlefield and given targets to aim at.
At the very least, it would confuse the enemy, which would focus on these small targets that are shooting at them, which gives the Aurora a chance to hit them without their full attention.
Another use is putting Mk 1 laser turrets as flak cannons , in case there are multiple incoming missiles, they could deploy and add to her defensive capabilities with automated targeting parameters.

Another interesting thought is a mine field. Each mine has a miniature fusion reactor set to overload, or some less massive scale detonation method. They can be set up beforehand, set up after a battle, for when the enemy comes to check on their fleet, or it can be set to cold coast into a system.
The devices use advanced encryption 4,096 bit, or whatever. And by broadcasting an encrypted frequency or key, the mines deactivate in Allied presence, thus taking away one of the downsides to naval mining of waterways.
Also, you could have the mines cold coast on converging pathways into the Jung home system from multiple directions, with a self destruct initiative (and self destruct tampering initiative), so that if the devices don't meet a ship on their way in, they will still detonate, so they can't be reverse engineered.
THOUGH, littering the Jung home system with deadly mines is a great pain the butt for them. Especially if they have to go about tip toeing through their own system before they're able to destroy them all. And by deploying them on a weekly basis, you can give them a constant worry.
Deployed Plasma turret modules are a good idea up until the point they get detected by the enemy - because they would be easily shot down.
The Point defense laser units have the problem where you need to launch them, get them into position and then stay there to benefit from they're protection... you loose the benefits of maneuverability and escape jumps - or at least degrade the benefits of these.
Drifting mines are a great idea - but with the size of a star system, and the defensive capabilities of the Jung, they would be easily destroyed at a safe distance. (would be a great idea to draw off smaller forces of Jung for a quick strike force to neutralist)
There are ways of using each of those ideas well and there are times when no matter what you do the get shredded to pieces by the enemy. keep coming up with ideas like this because they help Ryk to think up cool ideas for the stories ahead!!! And they keep me amused too 🙂
