Is it now time to start counting the days until the front page counter starts? Have my kindle all charged up.
I wonder when it will start cause ryk says we will find out in July and now its August and I wonder when it will start
I'm still writing, although I have edits and proofreads going on as I write. (Instead of waiting until its done.)
Been having problems keeping at it because of CTS. (What my wife calls Carpenter Tunnel Syndrome.) Can't seem to type more than a few hours a day, and sometimes had to take several days off to let them rest to be able to type at all. (I've banged my body up a LOT over the decades.)
In order to not only maintain my productivity, but hopefully to increase it, I've revamped my office space and I'm learning to write by dictating (using Dragon Naturally Speaking 13) instead of typing. In just a couple of weeks, I've managed to get my word count at least equal to what it was typing. (On a pain-free day.) I've found that pacing around while I dictate helps the my mind work. (Pretty good excuse to install a really big monitor, huh?)
I'm still trying to hit a 'last week of August' release...trying really hard.
I'm dreaming of increasing my productivity (through dictation) to releasing an episode every month! (We'll see.)
Ryk
Funny, when you mentioned CTS I immediately thought of those Dragon TV commercials. You may be able to cross advertise with them. "Kindle best selling author Ryk Brown uses Dragon."
I feel your pain as I have CTS from turning screwdrivers at work and it seems all my hobbies aggravate it.
Maybe you could get a secratary or a cute little intern to type for you.
😛
Tech reporter David Pogue of Yahoo these days uses Dragon Naturally Speaking for the same reason, CTS.
I get CTS when I sit back in my chair and use the keyboard in the desk tray, but the symptoms decrease (not all the way, but it is better) when I lean forward to place my forearms on the desk and type on top of the desk. That way my weight is on the forearms and my wrists are in the air rather than resting on anything.
Hope it gets better. That really sucks for a writer.
I too feel your pain, I developed something close to CTS from an accident. I am in constant pain from nerve damage. I just hope you feel better soon. cts is fixable if your willing to go under the knife.(surgery)
Ryk,
BIG doses of ibuprofen work for me---I have had CTS for over 20years and it's the only thing that helps me get through the tough days.
Hang in there man-- we need good writers like you!
Ryk,
I had CTS and had surgery on both hands to fix. It was the best thing I have ever done. I no longer have any numbness or pain, and even though a small muscle was cut, there was no loss of strength. I was worried about that when first contemplating the surgery, but I spoke with others who had it, and was reassured that I would not notice any difference. I would highly recommend you talk with a specialist to see about your options.
If you need a big monitor, I suggest this one:
Seiki 39-Inch 4K can not begin to describe how sick it is.
Well. If all you need is a big Monitor, then go with a Projector.
That would result in 3x4 meter display... 0 cm on the white wall and just a small box on the ceiling.
Dictation isn't working out as well as I'd hoped. It's going to be tough to get as fast if not faster than typing, so I've decided to chuck it for now and revisit the idea when I start part 2. (Episodes 16-30) I'll have a few months break between parts to prepare the outlines, and that would be a better time to make the transition.
Meantime, I'm popping ibuprofen, using ice packs, and sleeping with braces to keep them from getting too stiff. I'm also rotating between sitting at my desk, standing at a podium, and sitting in a recliner to write. (Helps my back and butt.)
I've been doing a lot of rewriting, as I didn't like where a few things were going. Even though I've got my proofreaders working scene by scene, I may not make it by end of August. It's looking more like first week of September at this point.
Meanwhile, you can listen to me embarrass myself on the web.
i have CTS too. Some streches helps
Considering this is what pays the bills now, invest in a professional to come evaluate your work area. A small adjustment may save you hours of pain. Getting the right height, posture, etc. is crucial.
