oh come on, you knew it was coming. 🙂
Ok, so this thread is to whine, moan, and offer sympathy to each other while waiting for Episode 14 to come out.
Wwwaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! I want 14 now.
So it begins.
Too long the wait, too fast the reading, too excited to get 14 asap...
But 13 was worth the wait!!
Ryk, please please please do not post any "it's coming" for 14, just put the ticker once you know the release date... No more suffering please!
Just keep saying Fall 2015! Unless its more likely to be Spring 2016... If that's the case, say Spring 2016.
My biggest worry now is will we be going back to 10 chapters normal sized episodes, or are the longer running episodes here to stay? Because I want the bigger story but not at the expense of a Spring 2016 release date... or Heaven forbid a Summer 2018 release date!!!

Agreed. I'd rather be told from the start to wait until October than being told to wait until August, then September and finally get Ep 14 in October. (This is not supposed to mean that you have to take till October, it's just an example and completely arbitrary.)
I promise, I've learned my lesson.
Here's the new procedure. You will never see a cover until the book is 'written', and the ticker will not go live until I have the final proofread in my hand, and I am positive that I will make the release date.
FYI: I plan on writing the first 3 episodes of part 2 before releasing the first episode of part 2, so that I can have a 9 month buffer of safety. The goal is to get the ebook, paperback, and audio versions all up at the same time, and to release all three on the first day of every quarter. (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct.)
As for the length, the longer works are not intentional. There is just so much happening in the last 3 episodes of part 1 that I can't help it. No decision has been made as to the length of anything in the future.
It's alright Ryk, you write your story let us wind bags ramble.
Ryk, you don't have to adhere to a strict schedule like you've planned. Neither do you have to keep a certain format in the form of story length. Heck, we'd probably even thank you if you decided that 15 episodes is not enough and that you need a 16th or 17th for the first cycle. It's fine if you do and also fine if you don't.
However, this suspense of thinking you should be able to buy it already, only to find that the release date gets changed time and again - that's what had me want to send some "inspiration" in the form of a pitchfork-wielding mob your way. 😉 (Considering I live an ocean away from you, you're quite safe, though.)
We hope that your plan for 15 episodes per part works, but if its 16 episodes in part one, 23 episodes in part two and 9 episodes in part 3, we are still fans and will read and love it!
The buffer is a good idea, and a timely schedule is very appealing, but my kindle is hungry and needs book downloads to live!
@rykbrown how do you see your fan's forum comments and suggestions impacting your work in Part 1 and how do you see them effecting your work in Part 2 when you are 3 books ahead of us?
It will be like watching the Aurora from the Aurora after a snap jump... 😉
Ryk, you wanna have 500 or 600 or even 700 pages per book; hell charge a little extra and send it. Also, don't forget about the asteroid that builds Jung frigates in that last system that was liberated. I can't wait to see that bad boy producing Alliance frigates. It would also make a good mission for the Ghatazhak just like the asteroid base on Tannan.
Sounds like Ryk has worked out the production issues. Very cool.
So it will be roughly October-January when the last installment of cycle 1 comes out. We will be worse off than lovesick puppies for another six months. How are we going to deal with this? Fan fiction? Graphic novels? Other books? I'm still thinking fan fiction might have a place here...
Nope, I've already started writing episode 14. Both 14 and 15 will be out this year. That production cycle won't start until part 2. And I'll be writing and releasing "Fall of the Core" shorts between part 1 and part 2 to keep you all busy. (Hoping for 1 per month.)
In order to solve my production problems (specifically to prevent delays due to overbooked indie editors/proofreaders) we're forming a corporation and have hired full-time employees to do the proofreading, editing, data collection, etc... (Nothing motivates people more than regular pay and medical benefits.) I'm trying to get things setup so that all I have to do is write, so that I can get work out faster while improving the overall quality and consistency of the work. Ideas is not my problem. Time is my problem.
@FourIslands: I actually do use some of the ideas people through out on the forums. Not usually directly, but variations at the least. But they are never implemented in the very next episode, as that episode is usually already outlined by that time. I do keep a list of all the good ideas that I come across from all sources, including the forums. The best thing to me about the forums is that I can keep an eye on what everyone likes and dislikes, and when something I do seems to be too much of a stretch for some people. I identifies when I could have been a little clearer about something as well. So, these forums are very important to my writing. Very important.
