Justin I just went an looked at the link you posted and I expected to see the Episode 13 product page. Of course it was the product page for Episode 12 but I don't remember the reference to Episode 13 being there when I purchased Episode 12 but then I was too excited to get my hands on the book and probably didn't even notice more than the "Buy now with 1-Click" button. lol
Nuclearman: It should be weighted, that's the point. I pay more for a large fry than a small one. And I pay more for 1,000 page book than I do for a 300 page one. Amazon chooses not to weight it because they CAN, and for some reason they don't want to be bothered with the extra step. But that is only one of many problems with their implementation. Everything about it is going to cause it to devolve into a pile of crap. You will have tons of indie shorts, along with some titles from traditional publishing (who get sweetheart deals and get whatever pay rate they want). If Amazon is going to continue to artificially prop up the payout fund by adding arbitrary amounts, it's only a matter of time before they start paying peanuts per read.
But the number one reason I'm getting out is because of the exclusivity requirement. It was okay when exclusivity got me some perks. But now, I have to be exclusive to Amazon so they can pay me less per read, AND so they can pay me whatever the hell they feel like?
Sorry, but I can't leave the welfare of my family in the hands of Amazon and that whack-job Bezos. And I feel so strongly about this that I am willing to take a HUGE revenue loss/month in order to start building up other revenue streams BEFORE the bottom drops out of Kindle Unlimited and the rest of the authors still in there going running for the other vendors as well.
When you see the stock showing signs of plummeting, you sell and get the hell out.
Ryk,
This may have been posted elsewhere so feel free to ignore it. Just as a curiosity, who gives YOU the best deal, iBook, Google or Amazon? These options all appear have your books listed at the same price so I figure I would patronize the vendor who is treating them the best.
BOrg: I appreciate the offer, but to be honest, they are all very close. (We're talking pennies, here.) So I'd prefer that you do what is easiest for you. That's part of the point of going wide, after all.
Ryk
Hey Ryk Do you have a release date yet for Ep 13 yet becaue we hit Febuary and its already the 7th will it be out by the 20th or 30th and great work by the way no matter wh anyone else thinks its a masterpice
I am really hoping episode 13 is released next week. My wife will be gone the entire week and I would really like to give 13 a couple of read throughs without "honeydos".
Ouch. 2 battle platforms down, that’ll hurt.
Go Admiral Dumar.
And the planet is not detailed enough to figure out what planet it is. Nice.
Tau Ceti is the only known core system with two battle platforms, so I expect we're looking at one of the inhabited planets in that system. It's pretty unlikely that the Tau Ceti BP's headed to Sol, and even more that this is two BP's from two different systems. That's months for them to get warning, and probably months to get re-positioned.
If the Alliance's goal is the removal of the Jung, it's safe to expect that they will be removed without warning. A pretty good clue to this is the smaller Jung ships on the cover. If they were going to take out the BP's, I would think they would have destroyed all the smaller ships first as per usual. They could change that up of course, but after Dumar's speech regarding the inhabited worlds being given freedom from the Jung, I suspect their goal is to do as much damage to the Jung ships before even setting foot in the system. That way all resources of the alliance can be put into effect protecting the world and they don't have to rely just on the Ghatazhak doing the footwork.
Part of such an attack on the BPs would be to immediately follow it up with further attacks. If they just blew up the BPs, then the Jung might be able to patch them together into something formidable, or recover the ordinance, or whatever. You need to not only do the damage but also follow it up to press the advantage.
So although the cover is cool, it is just the start of a battle in that system. THAT is what I am looking forward to. How does the Alliance gather enough resources to go on an attack? Any system with TWO BPs has other ships, troops, and bases that will make it a formidable target.
Tau Ceti? Time then. Tau Ceti is 11.88 ly from earth. At 20 ly/y, it would take .594 years or 7.128 months or 30.973 weeks or 216 something days. Wolfram Alpha rocks for this.

and

Lets see if I can combine them, probably not.
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%28distance+sol+to+tau+ceti%29%2F+20+ly%2Fyr It worked! Not used to that.
Hi All,
On November 12 I wrote:
– Nathan can blow up all platforms in a radius of 20 Lys without risking the Aurora nor the Celestia. It suffice to send the scouts with KKVs and blow them up without confrontation and most important being detected. They can launch the KKVs from a Light day of their position and as the Jung does not expect such attack, shields will be down and no one will know what happened with the BPs to explode in such a manner minimizing the risk to escalate the war. I also think that if they do it that way they can mislead the jungs to think that there is some problem with the platforms despite what Gen. Bacca can say (if I remember correctly, he doesn’t know about the KKVs)
Once the BPs are gone they can attack each system easier having as foes only Frigates, Cruisers and Battleships which can be destroyed by the Celestia and the Aurora.

It seems that I was right about the strategy Mr Brown has chosen for EP 13 or at least it seems so.
Mr. Brown, What do you intend to publish in the brand new option Netcast? I noticed that it was included 2 days ago with a suggestive image about the digital virus. Can I assume that you intend to give us hints about the contents of the Data Ark? If so I can only thank you for this.
I know that many here will not really appreciate what I'm gonna say but why don't you stop telling us approximate month you intend to release the next episode? I say that because as you I also have Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nasty problems on my left arm (I'm left handed -- all that thanks to 30 years in the IT business). I know that sometimes the pain is unbearable and in my case even morphine can do much and, when that happens there is no way to respect due dates. I say that because I'm as everybody else here in you forum wanting to read the next episode once we finish the current one. As many here I count the days to read the next episode and when you have to change the date due to different problems you have (as all of us). We all know that you intend to publish 4 episodes per year so giving us the approximate month only creates expectation and when it changes for some reason it give us a little frustration despite the fact that we all understand the reasons for the delay.
So in my opinion leaving the release month open will not create an expectation nor a possible frustration and you can warn us using the mailing list when the book will be ready to be published. And of course add the countdown to the home page as you intend to do with EP 13.
Finally I would like to thank you again for this wonderful series. One of the best I ever read.
Hans
@Hans I agree with you about Ryk not putting up a publishing date. ALL of his fans (including myself) get chomping on the bit when the release dates rolls around and start bugging Ryk. I know I have asked too. What I suggest is when RYk gets the book up THEN tell us.
Another word on KU: I really don´t think the length of a book should be the biggest part in deciding how much a book is worth. That should be its quality. Amazon has enough data to determine that. The reviews are just a small part. More interesting is the data about reading patterns. How often and long is a book read. How fast is a book read cover to cover. Just to name a few data points they have.
Besides that I like the idea of not going exclusively with Amazon. They lag competition ...
And of course I am waiting desperately on the next book, too. 😉 To give some sort of timeline seems a good idea to me. I like to know to some degree when the next book will come out. Probably makes although sense from a business stand point.
Here's some damn cool thoughts and visuals to help keep you going until the book comes out. Wish the guy would make a few more of these AND really cool if he made a couple inspired by this book series!
I posted that a few weeks back Lucky. Stunning video. Well worthy of repost.
