Conner is Nathan clone. More to come.
All done. Don't read if you haven't finished the book. Pretty happy with it. At first I was annoyed that so much of it was a flashback, but it was nice to get the story of what really happened after he handed himself over. Pretty bummed about Dumar. At least he got a few years with his family in peace.
Trying to go slowly...limiting myself to one chapter per day... We'll see how long that lasts!
All done and waiting for Part 2 Episode 3 🙂 I really liked this one, explained alot. Yes, Conner is Nathan's clone and a good story explaining. Mr. Brown, outstanding sir!
Disappointed with this one! It needed to go for 100 pages or more. A bit more of the aftermath when they got back.
I guess that will be in the next book. O well that great philosopher Forrest Gump said "life is like a box of chocolates. You never get what you want"
A bit Romeo and Juliet with Juliet stealing Romeos Brian thrown in the mix, and here is Ryk saying he does not do love stories. Loved it.
FINISHED AND HAPPY!!! Ok this was not the story I expected, but it's the one I desperately needed!! I was extremely happy that we started right where the last book ended, I did not want to jump ahead and have a narrative explaining what happened... Then the flashback began and I thought it was going to be a short bit, and then I noticed it was still going and going... The one thing I will say is that the first two books of this part are really one book. All of my issues with the first one where about the jump in time and little to no explanation of what happened to Nathan. Now I see the need for the first book to really put everything into the right context, God when is the next one due out???? Can’t wait!!
Ok guys, I know I am going to catch a lot of flak for what I'm about to say, but I honestly don't know If I liked the book or am very disappointed in it. I am a big fan of the series and have read each book at least twice.
First point, I have to call BS on the way the Jung invaded Corinair. Of all the worlds they (Corinair) have been invaded so many times you would have thought by now they would have had much better defenses in space and on the ground. I know that the jung would eventually conquer Corinair but you have though it would have put up more of a fight like earth put up against them. Make the Jung attack several times before they gave in.
Second, I thought (don't know why I thought this) that part 2 was going to be a different story line with some different characters developed that intersected with some of the current characters in part 1 that tied-in at the end. It seems to me this is part 1 book 16 or 17.
It was good to know what actually happened to Nathan but then again that is one bit of information that would have kept me coming back for more to see if any light was going to be shed on what happened to him. I'm sorry but I am not buying that a clone of Nathan is eventually going to step up and be the resistance leader to the Jung. I thought the whole idea of "Na-tan" was an idea and not the man as Admiral Dumar put it. I can't believe there are not other people that would step and follow in Nathan's foot steps.
Anyway I think I was a little more disappointed than I thought. Ryk keep writing the stories and I will keep reading and buying. I do like the series even though I do not like the direction you have chosen to take it.
I don’t think you will get much flack, I more or less understand what you are saying, even though I don’t agree with it.
As for Corinair, it was a full complement of ships with jump drives and jump tactics that were superior to Navarro's that took the planet. The Avendahl had been sitting over the plant providing support for the last 7 (I think) years of relative peace. They had no idea the Jung would ever be a threat given the stalemate and their lack of jump drives, and they had the most powerful ship in their end of the galaxy protecting them... Complacency is real and deadly.
As for the different characters and the Nathan thing, I combine them because I don’t think we are getting Nathan back, we are going to get Conathan if anything, a mix of Conner and Nathan if they do the process. And frankly if you want to rally the planet of Corinair there is no better person to do it at this time in the story than someone who looks like Nathan and has all of his memories (even if he is Con-Tan and not Na-Tan) for pretty much pure PR value. Basically I am saying that another man will step up and take the mantle of Na-Tan, he just happens to almost be Nathan… Also several of the characters from the first part are changed, Jess is not the same and I think we will see the same for other characters as they appear. And frankly I want to follow these characters, and I am sure new ones will come into play that will be just as compelling.
That all being said I would love to see side storylines get fleshed out in other books that intersect the main story line as you describe, but not more than I want Ryk to finish his Opus…
Episodes 1 & 2 taken together are much better then just episode 1 on its own.
We had just spent ep 8-15 in a heightened state of war, for Episode 1 to be so much calmer threw me for a loop. Episode 2 helped me bridge the gap and begins draw out the new reality of Part 2.
The Clone idea as described in Episode 2 is much easier to live with when you discover the idea with the characters in the flashback. I can except Connor more as Nathan's clone, knowing that Nathan excepted the procedure - that Connor initially not cooping with his memories had them suppressed being an added link to who Nathan is and is very helpful to me to like the two.
Loosing Dumar is a shame, having him as the Pentarus Admiral would have been fantastic but I believe that we could see Navarro Grow into that position very well, he as the great tactician along with his squeaky clean reputation (ie wasnt involved in suppression / cleansing / anti-insurgency actions (that we know of)) make him a very likely Pentarus/Alliance leader.
No mention of the Glendannon in the current day scenes but a few throw away comments that its still bridging the gap between Pentarus and Sol in the flashback were very nicely done
I think that Nathan having Jess help him die was a Jackass move but I'm glad that the Jung General wasn't far behind in being assisted die.
There were a few times reading the story where Editors missed things "Gear down and locked" - "Gear?" - "Gear down and locked" but it could be glossed over as heat of the moment stuff between Josh and Loki, it was a shame it happen as they were being so proficient at the time and I'm sure that Admiral Dumar was sticking around for the funeral and then his next cut scene he was not sticking around for the funeral... not sure if that was a change of mind on his part or a missed correction for the writing team. Also I'm sure Jess mentioned the second clone doctor's name to Telles before they both met him and found out his name. I know you have very short turn around on these books and that this book was reworked, so I completely forgive these mistakes but they were noticed.
Ep 2 was a good story but it needed Ep 1 to set it up, Ep 1 was an interesting opener but it needed ep 2 to tie it in with the universe we knew. Its a shame that you couldn't have released them both together, but that's hindsight. Ep 1 & 2 together were very good. Many happy returns, Shaken Faith restored!
I'd Be happy if they pull Nathan's memories to Nathan's body, but leave Connor intact still. I agree that I'd have though in 7 years the Coranari would have at least built a patrol boat or two, but I'd understand if they wouldn't have wanted to spend the recourses because they did have the avendahl. However, I though this one was awesome as always, can't wait to read more!
I assumed Jessica got the name of the other Doctor when she got the communique that they would help, and when they met in person they introduced them formally as you do. I had also assumed that Dumar had done the Earth memorial then went to Coranair to do the walk of heroes, but i will have to go back and read that as to why i thought that... AS far as losing Dumar, it hurt, but then again that is kind of the point, if all the good guys make it every time the story losses its vitality... that being said dont you dare kill off Cameron or Vlad!!! 🙂
Well not Vlad, even though he does often talk about home in that red shirt kind of way...
Can't wait to see the direction the series goes in. Could be a dark future and considering the amount of doom Ryk likes to toss about anything can happen.
Considering that the Jung that took Takara and Corinair with a fleets of jump ships, and with Jump Fighters and troop transports, I can only assume that they are scouting out the other systems in the area for other systems to capture. With Takara and Corinair taken, then I would assume they now know about all of the more popular destinations in nearby space. It will not be long before they will find the Segmar/Ghatazack system too.
With the incursions into the Sol sector which I assume are a strategic decision by elements of the Jung to encourage the Sol/Alliance to attack the Jung in a manner that would allow those elements of the Jung to raise the flag of war/expansion again.
With just the above I can tell already that Ryk will have his hands full for the next few episodes.
