I have read book 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the wheel of time since reading Retaliation. I am a slow reader, but I have a lot of time on my hands... and that's a bad pun
What are we reading? I just re-read the 15 books of part one. 🙂
I'm realizing that with three more parts and 5 more books in this part that Ryk is planning on keeping us entertained for many more years. Keep your health up Ryk!
From Facebook: Happy New Year, everyone! I know, we're a little late, but we've been busy! You guessed it! Book 11 is in the works! It's early, but Ryk is writing fiercely, so you never know! Of course, as soon as I have any fun news, I'll let you know here! 2019 is going to be an exciting year for The Frontiers Saga, and we can't wait to share it with all of you!
Let's see, while waiting I've read Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series, Jennifer Foehner Wells' Confluence series and I'm now finishing up Nathan Hystad's Survivors series. Going to start the latest in David Weber's latest Safehold book next.
Book 11 will be called "A Rock and a Hard Place."
I need a re-read of part 2. I can't remember the battles all that well. and I should! I love that ship!
Emotions are high as I now re-read Resurrection on my way through the whole series again.
It has been quite a while since I lasted posted on this site and I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be as much activity as there has been in the past. That doesn't mean that Ryk's story telling is somehow not as interesting or thought provoking as the first 15 episodes in Part 1. In particular, I think the last three episodes, Sanctuary, I Am Justice and Retaliation have packed on Ryk's predilection for non-stop action. So here a some thoughts and comments that hopefully will stimulate some discussion:
A. Some story lines over the past three books that are ripe for an update;
1. Nathan's sister Miri. How is her treatment going. Are there serious threats to her well being.
2. Jung reaction to jump missile attack from the SOL sector. They are not going to let that attack go unanswered - and have they gotten jump drive tech yet??
3. Galiardi's grip on power in the SOL system. What has he been up to and what is he planning.
4. We found out from CDR Andreola that the Orswellian's have a significant space shipyard capability. The Aurora needs a shipyard to effect repairs even if Vlad is able to integrate ZPED tech as a power source. As for CDR Andreola what is his and his captured crew status. I see him playing the same kind of role as Cdr Willard.
5. The Casbon/Anka theater of operations. The Alliance has thrown a considerable amount of resources into training Casbon personnel to fly the Sugali fighters. How many Sugali fighters do the Alliance eventually end up acquiring. What's it going to take to ensure Anka doesn't bother Casbon ever again. And how is the discovery that Casbon has a huge supply of Aramenium play into technology updates.
6. What about the huge pirate ship Isabella that Maxmillian Seneh was kidnapped from and the fate of the JOFA. That ship would make a huge addition and add a ton of capability to the Karuzari Alliance. Speaking of MAX I think he is a clone of Capt Dubnyk. From the conversation they had on his ship , his recognition of Nathan & Jessica, his questioning them about remembering him and his implying that Nathen was still playing God with trillions of lives leads me to that conclusion.
7. It was alluded that due to the Ghatazhak being down to just 100 men that cloning them would be the only way to ensure their survival. Have the last of them had their conscience stored and has Dr. Sato started the cloning process. Between her and Dr. Symyri they can definitely get the job done.
8. Dusahn Gen. Hessen (Ret.) request to talk directly to Na-Tan. That should be interesting.
B. Some Other things on my mind;
1. The AI tech from the Sugali fighters being installed on the Aurora opens up a whole lot of capability possibilities.
2. After Jessica and Nathan survive the jump missile attack on the bridge of the Aurora because of the Ghatazahk combat suits I would issue the whole crew these suits for wearing during combat ops.
3. Cdr Prechitt wanted to get the Corinari Sciorsi retrained to help the Ghatazahk out in operations. What is the status of that effort.
4. Has Deliza made any further tech advances. Circumferential personal shields, forearm cannons for the Ghatazahk, space jump suits. What else is she and Dr. Sorenson cooking up.
5. The Dusahn have taken some serious hits to their fleet and shipyards in the PC. What's their next play especially now that the alliance is aware of the Orswellian connection.
6. It would be nice to have some concept art of the Contras, Reaper, Orochi, Octos and Sugali fighters. I think some of those may have been depicted in the cover art of last two books but more detail would be helpful. The Gunyoki fighter was shown on a cover but more detail on it would also be nice.
C. Personnel and Assets;
1. Dalen was killed off. What about CDR. Kellan. Did he and his Ghatazahk team make it off the ZPED astroid. I wasn't sure from the narrative. The entire Aurora bridge crew was killed.
2. Lcdr Kayla Yosuf and Narleena are back.
3. The Ghatazahk are down to less then 100 now. Not sure of the exact number but I think its 85-90.
4. The Sekii was destroyed.
Keep them coming Ryk. I can only re-read your books 3-4 times before I get antsy for new adventures.
@tomcat fantastic post! I am also interested with what the Jung are doing and the earth fleet and forces
Hello @p-b-nelson
Good run down.
One thought I had about the last point, the Sekii's destruction, is that Nathan / Karuzari neverconfirm the complete destruction of the Sekii. The Dushan could have recover the computer, which they may be able to find:
1. The location and codes needed to get to Sanctuary
-This could result in the Dushan attacking Sanctuary, lucky there is a Ghataazhak team there, but the Dushan could capture the
personal their As well as Miri & family.
2. Loki's Algorithm for shaking pursuit
- The Dushan could come up with a counter to the algorithm.
Also (I'm going off memory here) didn't the Sekii have Stealth Jump emitters installed? the Dushan could have examples of this tech now?
Palmer - you make a good point about the Seiiki never being verified for destruction of classified information. However, I think that when the escape pod (essentially the Seiiki's complete cockpit area aka the way the crew in an F-111 Aardvark had to eject) was activated that probably fried all of the onboard sensitive equipment/software routines. If not then the Dusahn would have the potential of discovering the location of Sanctuary and Loki's algorithm. The Seiiki was NOT stealth jump equipped. In "I Am Justice" (Book 9/Kindle #184-185) Nathan & Vlad discuss a 3rd jump drive generator for the Seiiki while eating breakfast. Nathan comments that they still had not been equipped with steath jump capabilities. Also, I remember the emphasis being to equip smaller ships with the capability prior to doing more analysis to equip the Aurora and Scouts. As such there are numerous occasions were the Reapers, Falcon, combat shuttles and Gunyoki are doing stealth jumps.
Some additional thoughts since my last post;
1. When the Seiiki went down on Eralit Seven Delta, Josh laid a Tasmanian lip lock on Deliza in the heat of a firefight. That was kinda ignored in "Retaliation". Just saying.
2. The Alliance is down to just 2 Scouts. Originally they got a total of nine off of Kohara, although 2-3 were pretty much unserviceable. What ever happened to the other 2-3 Scout ships. Aden, Charnelle and what's left of their crews are now flying Orochi's.
3. When the Ghatazahk left Burgess they sent a lot of their equipment to some remote planet. In particular their replicators. They ever recover that equipment?
4. A lot has transpired with the Karuzari fleet assets. We know the 4 big flatbeds sacrificed themselves to save the Aurora. The Glendanon and Mystic are still around. The Weatherly is headed back to the Rogen system.
5. Add LCDR Kono to the list of dead.
It's February and my Frontiers Saga addiction needs a HIT!!
@p-b-nelson Something I've noticed recently is that there are several continuity issues in the series.
An example of one is how the Bio-Digital Plague came into existence. In Episode 3 of Part 1, Nathan and Vladimir have a conversation in the mess hall of the Aurora with Josh and Loki. In that conversation Nathan states that know one knows what caused the Plague, but in the most recent episode of Part 2 Nathan suddenly knows that it was caused by an artificial intelligence. We're never shown how Nathan came know that. We the readers know because it was revealed in the third Fall of the Core installment, but there's no way Nathan could know.
Another like you mentioned was the number of gunboats that were acquired in the raid on Kohara. The raid captured a number of them, but the next episodes they only have four of them?
And another as you mentioned was the kiss between Deliza and Josh. It happened... and there were no consequences from it? I would assume Deliza would feel guilt about it.
And I believe the Seiiki was upgraded with the stealth jump emitters. I distinctly remember Josh and Loki rescuing Nathan and party in space using the Seiiki without Nathan noticing a jump flash and Josh saying the Seiiki was a "stealthy bitch now".
Have the Dushan put 2 and 2 together and realized Stealth Jump Drive Is a Thing yet? if have have got examples of the emitter's they might not know what they have.
Well I re-read #7 "He Who Takes No Risks". For some reason I'm reading Part II backwards waiting on #11.
Somethings I noticed that seem to be interesting;
1. What ever happened to Cuddy & Birk. The only thing we definitively know is they ended up volunteering to serve the Dusahn. The Dusahn officer noted they would not make good soldiers so who knows in what capacity they are serving.
2. Na-Tan mentions that 6 gunboats were acquired in the Kohara raid. 2 seem to have gone missing or were they used for parts?
3. Adm Galiardi mentions Earth building 3 Battleships (Cape Town class), 8 Destroyers and bookoo (100+) gunships. All that plus what Earth Alliance had already would make for an interesting fight with the Karuzari Alliance ( can I imagine a Jung/KA latchup!). I can't wait until Na-Tan goes back and kicks Adm. SlimBalls butt.
4. At location B7/K1863, Lord Dusahn states that it was fortuitous that he granted an "Audience with an old man selling miracles". No doubt in my mind that that was Capt. Dubnyk. That's how they got jump drive tech. Also, remember Cdr. Andreola told Jessica that the Dusahn outfitted one of their old ships, the Lor-Tantin, with a jump drive that ended up disappearing. I'm thinking Capt. Dubnyk got that ship for handing the Dusahn jump drive tech and it is the Isabella that Maxmillian Seneh (aka Capt. Dubnyk) was kidnapped from.
5. There was mention of not only Reapers in this book but also Raptors. Haven't seen anything about Raptors since.
Palmer - When the KA goes after the Corinari and the Teyentah, I think it was Gen. Hesson that mentions Gunyoki's were jumping in without flashes so they are aware of Stealth Jump technology.
I'm still troubled with the way Cdr Willard was murdered. Between him, Major Waddell and SGT Weatherly I would not want my last name starting with a W!!
I been thinking that using CDR. Kaplan as the CO of the Mystic is kinda a waste of her talents. And I miss her snarky/funny attitude. Got to get her back in the story.
I guess I'll re-read #6.
I want confirmation that Maxmillian Seneh was put on ice in a sleeper ship. I expect he bought his way out with a promise of near immortality.
If he was it gives him a good reason to come back swinging at the KA!
