I dont know how thorough i am but would also love to Get early access to um.. i mean proof read as well!!!
Just finished it and I'm hungry for more! This is a fantastic prequel! I can't wait for the next one. There are multitudes of directions you can take this. I'm excited about the future of this story!
Amazing. I want more.
Ok, I have to say it - I didn't care for it. (commence beatings)
I also didn't like the flashback book, where Ryk reviewed the dealings on Earth. For me, the same reason applied - No matter how the characters struggled, no matter how inventive or successful they might be, in the end they are doomed. I knew it, and no matter what happened I just wasn't engaged. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the ride.
So there it is. I'll probably buy and maybe even read the rest, but I just don't enjoy them like I enjoyed most of the main saga.
Actually, Eric, I totally get that. It was one of the reasons that I almost didn't write it. Learning how the BD plague did so much damage isn't interesting enough for everybody. Also, getting the story in chunks, even if they are only a month apart, isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's an experiment. Not only in writing something that isn't military SF and full of space battles, but also in the effects of monthly releases on overall visibility and sales.
I strongly suspect that not every story set within the Frontiers Saga universe will be liked by all, and I'm okay with that. Nathan and the gang will always be my favorite characters, just as the Aurora and the Falcon will always be my favorite ships.
I am not usually fond of back stories either, but in this case I REALLY want to know who started this and I have a sneaking suspicion that Ryk will tie it in somehow with the current storyline. What do you say Ryk?
Pet hate of mine is to be introduced to a character in a book, and live the world through they're eyes and then have that character die and be forgotten. Case and point: Geneva Gate Guard in Episode 8. introduced, did stuff, almost got away, died.
It would have been an interesting side story how he got away and started/met up with local resistance, and he could have been brought into the new simi-zach training camp. Instead we got new guy, dead guy.
I know we have to be realistic that the Jung kill people, and that no one is safe (except Capt. Scott because Ryk said so.) but its a story and the character has to survive to tell that story. Or someone has to know what happened / can piece it together or it is lost and doesn't matter anymore because it effects nothing.
In saying that: Netcasts are telling a story and it has lasting impact. Everyone(or 90% of Earth population) may be dieing in the next few months but the story lives on, because its effects are far reaching.
I know this sounds like bait, but the truth is that everything I write that has the Frontiers Saga logo on it, connects... somehow. It may be obvious, it may not. But in every story I write, something will happen that had it not, things that happened later could not have.
When I started this project, I knew that I was asking a lot of my readers. I mean, 75 books? That's 7.5 million words! So I decided that I had to write my stories in such a way that those who read everything would be rewarded by having a deeper, more complete understanding of how and why everything that happens, happens.
Cryptic enough for you?
heh.
Just a note: I am fine with the piecemeal distribution. No problems with that part.
And I always appreciate efforts to stretch in an artistic way.
Ryk, I'm glad you have decided to write it. The characters are very well developed. I dare to say that better than the ones on the main books. At least, It's a fresh air versus fights and military stuff of the main thread. And you can play with every future technology that you can imagine, so there is a lot of room to create. I dont care if the characters are doomed, I enjoy the story and I hope people will like it too (if I'm not wrong it's among the best sellers in sci fy->Pots Apocalyptic).
If it's an experiment, please, I encourage you to continue it.
Thanks
Ryk, I like the sometimes sparse linkages in your stories... true to the seemingly disparate threads that make up our life experiences. Keep crankin' 'em out!
Friends and I have long suspected that Dubnik was the creator of the BD plague. My guess is he'll show up soon enough.
Nah, not Dubnyk - unless he was that new camera guy. He wanted the job because he's bored (and offers his services for less pay than he should be getting), he's a computer wiz, and as soon as he gets hired, things get really interesting. Plus, his "assitude" (or whatever you want to call it) implies that he doesn't really care about people. (Of course, he might just as well be the guy who almost manages to stop the BDP, but I don't think that's the case.)
I enjoyed the short, as it was a short I did not look for much building of characters or too great a back story since we knew that from the previous books. "Fill-the-gap" stories are always good and its nice to flesh out the entire story/universe as well.
The start felt unsure, but it was a ball rolling down hill and kept picking up the pace... The interchange and the camaraderie was good and then the split so fast to a new guy, I liked it. It forces everyone to rethink the process between everyone.
Bio-terrorism, I sort of thought of this one from the beginning, but not in this way. Like an Dr Evil, trying to control the world! But we shall see how it goes in the next episode.
Update on Netcast:One Please! Wake up everday and look for it on Amazon.
