I respecfully disagree; space battles, KKV strikes won't assure control of a planet, sector let alone the alliance. Ground shock troops that can seize, control and hold terrain is a necessesity.
Being that creating a large infantry force requires the alliance to be fully functional, the need for the Ghatazhak is needed to take on fast engagements with a larger enemy.
Let me elaborate... Ghatazhak, much like today's Ranger Regiment, are a premier, direct action unit; a lethal, agile and flexible force, capable of conducting many complex missions. Rangers are always combat ready, mentally and physically tough, and prepared to fight our country's adversaries. Their capabilities include conducting airborne and air assault operations, seizing key terrain such as airfields, destroying strategic facilities, and capturing or killing enemies quick, swift and exceptionally well. To have this kind of capable force, you require highly specialized personnel that can perform to this standard. The level of training, preparation and readiness requires to have a force of a certain size (not too big or too small) to accomplish these missions. If you dont have the right personnel with the right training, equipment and capabilities to accomplish strikes at a moment's notice, a nation would require a sizeable force and willing to accept a significant amount of combat losses. Even those countries that do, do not fair well throughout history. Thus, the need for these troops is critical to succeed in high risk missions.

This is a book series not a real war dude.
I just feel they have run their course with big terrain battles. I don't question their ability or need, just the way the story will go now doesn't seem like they will be full on assaults of any planets for a while.
This Forum has been way too long quite. I am a not a English native Speaker therefore please excuse all my errors. (Whoever finds any can keep them.)
First of all, Ryk, I love the last two books. I like most the coming out of old characters. It gives a sense of familiarity and continuity.
I do not want to comment on the last book but in my post from "July 19, 2017 at 9:16 pm" I predicted a military coup by Galiardi and I said Tensen Dalott is Suvan Navarro. π
p-b-nelson above posted about battle losses. I think they are much higher. One Battleship another one heavyly damaged. 2 Cruisers (one and 6 Gunboats in Ancot System), 4 Frigates (2 over Rakuen) and at least two more in the final fight. I did not count the Gunboats but I got the impression there were more than the 12 mentioned above.
What I expect will happen in the next book(s):
Sol Sector: Galiardi takes over the Alliance but has problems not to appear as a dictator. In my opinion it is time to introduce more old guys from the first series. I think about Kata Mun the Reporter of Kohara and Gerald the ex-spy on the same planet. I guess Gerald has the translator as a woman or at least a friend but I do not remember her name. Nathan cannot leave the PC but has also to fight against Galiardi. Kohara has to do this for him. He has to travel there and organize the resistance. Another detail will help. When Dayton Scout was killed he was "half through" with his speech. He wanted to tell the People of Earth the truth ... maybe he came far enough to raise questions once the immediate trouble with the assassinations are over. He will set Kata Mun on this.
Just as a remark the name Nathan Scout has power. When he calls a lot of people will follow him. He is even respected by his enemies.
PC: The Dusahn are far from over. To this date they did not take the "Boy-Captain" serious. After this this will change and the Dusahn will strike back. Nathan has a weakness and the Dusahn will try to exploid this. His weakness is he cannot see people suffer and has to fight against injustice. In what form this will happen I do not know.
Ghatazhak: Where are the Nilfeams (however they are spelled) doctors who cloned Nathan? The Karazari need boots on the ground and noone is better than the Ghatazhak at this. The Ghatazhak are genetically modified ... maybe up to the point where cloning is possible. I hope this will happen. The exact place to clone a large number of humans can only be the home planet of the Nilfeams. And they should realize that they need protection because it will be known that Nathan is a clone and in principal every human can be cloned. There will be fighting over them and the loser will deny the victor the cloning process by destroying the Nilfeam planet. They need either to relocate to somewhere else or a bombastic defense.
The Jung: There will happen nothing so far because of distance and time. Their retaliation will come in a later book.
"Gerne der Zeiten gedenk ich, da all meine Glieder gelenkig, bis auf eins.
Niemals kehren sie wieder, lΓ€ngst sind steif all meine Glieder, bis auf eins." (Zitat von Goethe)
Yeah, it seems to have gone super quiet over the last ~2 years.
I can see that as a conflict with Giliardi as well. He's going to have to play things right, as not to be branded as such. Regarding President Scotts speech, I would think his progress within the speech would be a vital piece of information for the story. Unfortunately, with that never actually having been addressed it makes me think he wasn't in far enough at all for there to be any implications, thus making it irrelevant to the reader. Who knows, maybe he actually was and we will learn of it in the next episode.
Oh, man. The Ghatazhak. It really was upsetting seeing them take such losses and be reduced to what they are now. I'm holding out and really hoping for something later on on the series that will grant them the chance to return to their former selves. But, they will never be the same.
Episode 8 please !!!
The Clone doctors, 1 of them died in the escape when they transferred Connor into nathan's new body, it was the male one, the tech guy.
a resistance against Gillardi on kohara, perhaps, but I think it would be something more open, Nathan would return to the Sol sector, after the alliance is pretty much at full war with the Jung, and openly confront him, and cause a schism, with all the Gillardi supporters and worlds on One side, and the Scott supporters on the other, with the Jung breathing down their necks
I don't think it would be resolved quickly and easily there, I think it would get to a point where Gillardi starts strong arming the other alliance worlds, threatening them if they don't fall into line with him, and basically going full retard on the Dictator role, until Nathan finally has the support and justification to take him out.
maybe during this time, as someone else has mentioned, the leftover Dushaan shits would return to the Jung empire, and bring the jump drive to them, and this is where frontiers saga, part III would start
Oh, god. I hope they don't get the chance to pull that. Last thing we need is an empire like the Jung, with their sizable infrastructure and military, to have the Jump Drive. Hopefully the PC Alliance can destroy all or enough of the Dusahn assets to prevent a retreat and escape.
