Since the preorder is now available, we might as well begin the speculation thread. From the description on Amazon, we can assume the obvious: 1) we have a seven year time jump, 2) the worlds of the Alliance have rebuilt themselves, and 3) that "new leaders" are seeking to elevate themselves to a higher status.
Beginning with the third item, the line "that would be kings" immediately makes me think of the Takaran nobles. The same line could apply to the leaders of the rogue Jung castes or the Ybaran Legions as well. If it is the nobles, we could see the Alliance in a war of two fronts: the Jung in Sol and the Takarans in the Pentaraus Cluster. The idea of Ybarans with jump ships does sounds nasty though. However, since the line "The Jung threat has been renewed" makes it obvious that it's most likely the leaders of the rogue castes.
My guess is the wannabe king is Dubnyk and he has united the Jung castes against the Alliance, now armed with jump tech.
I think that because we have moved 7 years on, there could very well be a lot of new people in leadership roles. Scott senior could have been replaced now that it is no longer war time / recover is well under way and resources are available to build new warships but noone wants to waste resources on that when the Alliance is at peace with the Jung... and Idiots voting with the're own local self interests are the reason that the Alliance has to use ships like the Glendanon as a warship against a galaxy with Jung warships everywhere!!!
Any thoughts on Captain Scotts disposition? 7 years, wonder what has become of him.....
I don't see any situation that would make sense in which he wasn't executed.
Just Shh!! you dont know that!!! I have until the 27th to keep my hope alive!!!
I was under the impression that he was a active player through the whole series. Did that change?
I dunno. The only thing I can think of that would possibly explain his presence is if the Jung have reconditioned him and he is their new trump card captain taking on the Alliance.
Another explanation could be that when the rogue Jung violate the ceasefire and attack the Alliance, the legitimate Jung leadership decides to quickly pull Nathan out of whatever deep dark hole they've had him in for seven years to use as their envoy to the Alliance leadership. The proper word for it would be "parole". It's an exchange between Nathan and the Jung really. His freedom in return for him being the legitimate leadership's messenger that it wasn't them that violated the ceasefire.
