I reckon you would still want conventional engines as well as the jump drive in the event of drive failure.so you don't stay a sitting duck.
Base them in Sol or Tanna as a system defence monitor as opposed to a strike platform?
Been thinking. Now that the Jung have seen KKVs in action what's to stop them using there own comm drones as KKVs on Alliance targets such as the Karuza (spelt wrong) or the Tannan moon facility.
The lack of jump ships would stop retargetting against mobile vessels but against static targets it could be devastating.
Forums dead this week. Here's a thought or two.
I'm sure it was mentioned that there are/were mining stations in the Asteroid belt? What became of them?
Is there anything salvageable from the Railgun base on the Moon? Would it be worth rebuilding it? Does the potential for Jung orbital bombardment or kkv's render it pointless??
Discuss.
Yeah, Greg. Seems like the Moon Base is similar to the Karuzara. They can't move (downside), but they have unlimited potential as a shooting base (upside). Especially when linked up with jump scout ships for targeting, it seems like they could launch a massive assault on an incoming fleet.
Also, the asteroid mining bases seem like they would still exist, and that they would greatly benefit from the new manufacturing processes. That would provide lots more industrial base to what the Alliance can count on.
Wow, everybody still sleeping of the big dinner from turkey day or too busy writing to Santa Claus for things they want or think they need.
No more speculation on who's the spy or spies? I'm pretty sure there will be some major help coming from the PC. I'm thinking the Avendahl and recon ships. Maybe not to help fight the Jung, more along the lines of finding their home world.
What say you ?
I see the big jump cargo ship making repeated jumps between Earth/Tanna and the PC, before the Avendahl/(jump cruisers more likely if pirates still about) turns up.
I would love to see some real recon being done by properly built Jump Falcons and the Jump Recon ships & jump drones to watch red shifts in the approach lanes or Earth/Tanna.
Cannnot wait for more on Ark Info.
Want to see Takara Council get there Sh*t together one way or the other stalling is doing nothing, as help from the PC even against the will of the Council will draw the ire of the Jung.
Ryk hope you have a good Holiday Season, free of Jung incursions and Spy sabotage. I also hope you get some good old Earth food!!!
Is Episode 13 still on for a January Release? or has it been pushed back I know the past 2 were I don't mind Its just something I and I think others would want to know.

I am wondering the same thing. Anyone know when the release date is?
Ryk can you tell us when you plan to release Book 13 please.
Thank You
Mid-February, unfortunately. The dictation thing just isn't working out for me. Changes my style too much.
I keep thinking that if you took one of those arms of the battle platform, put the antimatter cores back in, and strapped on some engines, you’d already have a massive ship about the size of 20 battleships. The retrofit would be a lot faster than melting it down and starting over. I think from what I read you’d get 2 or 3 of these massive mini platforms.
Haha. This gave me a funny mental image - mount some of the least damaged arms onto the Karuzara asteroid, now imagine that thing flying through space on the attack. "Coming at the Jung like a spider monkey"
I like your idea of using the Battle Platform arms in some way.
Ryk my good man, keep up the good work!!! Looking forward to Mid February!!!
If they wanted to really protect the earth, why not put shields on the Karuzara, and weaponize the bejesus out of it? It would basically be a 60km battle platform, rather than a 20km jung platform. The mass ratio is huge in favour of the Karuzara.
I'd really like to see the Earth get some protection.
Also, I don't know about you guys, but I love reading from the Jung's perspective. I really would have loved a couple jump backs to that battle platform in 12 as they were engaging in battle -- first the pompous attitude of the Jung admiral and general as their ploy to jump forward to their missles (mini FTL jump) and take out the side of the Aurora worked... And then a follow up in their shock as they were struck by the Karuzara.
I agree with the posts here that it's probably time that Nathan got promoted to Commandant. It did seem a little bit out of left field to me that Dumar was made admiral, however... I guess it does make sense. I would have liked to see some back story of Nathan suggesting it to the world leaders, and them agreeing to it. I also think in 13 there needs to be some development of Nathan's character where he can start ripping some strips off of people. He's been through how many battles now? Surely he must be battle hardened to a large degree?
One of the posts I agree with most -- it's time to see some romantic relationship between Jess and Nathan begin...
Overall, enjoyed the read..Looking forward to more to come.

Rereading book 12 and just noticed that the Karuzara does have Plasma Turrets!!! They are back!!! I like those things!!!

@aidan The Plasma turrents were added prior to the Karuzara base jumping to Earth. Dumar knew they were headed for trouble (I know this is probably a redundant statement on my part.
I just wanted to point out what I saw in book 12
I really do love those turrets... I just hadn't seen them mentioned in a while... then didn't register that they were mentioned when they were... Best yet Karuzara has Twin Plasma Cannons Mounted on Turrets that make me weak at the knees... Weak at the Knees!
How about a Jung spy as a hero? Start with a sympathetic character, have them secretly captured and brainwashed. He or she knows they have been brainwashed and is forced to do very bad things. The hero/spy eventually finds ways to get around their programming and drop hints as to their status. The internal conflict could be incredibly painful.
From the tactics side, it would be cool to explore what happened with the antimatter explosion at the moment of jump at the beginning of the series. Can that effect be weaponized? Can it be used to create an explosion that propagates FTL? Can it be used as an escape maneuver, with a nasty surprise?
Whatever happened to President Scott's wife? Her fate was never determined. I see several possible plot lines here, captured and sent off planet by the Jung or injured with amnesia to turn up later at an opportune time.
