I like the idea of proximity mines too, but its impractical when dealing with FTL ships and Light speed sensors. The trigger is always too late. Detonations would spread at light speed but the target is already past the mine and faster then the blast wave.
Slower travelling ships would see them on they're own sensors. so you would have to hide them in wreckage or something, and then that interferes with the mines sensors.
The great thing about antimatter mines is that they have a large blast radius. they do not need to be directly in the flight path just near enough to do damage.
I do see Scout ships becoming instrumental in Mine/KKV laying in the future.
Rereading book 12 and just noticed that the Karuzara does have Plasma Turrets!!! They are back!!! I like those things!!!
A potential way to deal with the proximity mine issue is to equip the mines with mini-jump drives. If the target is in FTL, the mine calculates and jumps in front of the target, then detonating. It could even communicate with other mines and order them to do the same and converge on a specific target. You'd just have to be careful that one ship didn't trigger the entire minefield (in that local area anyway.)

@aidan The Plasma turrents were added prior to the Karuzara base jumping to Earth. Dumar knew they were headed for trouble (I know this is probably a redundant statement on my part.
I just wanted to point out what I saw in book 12
Ya... I just noticed that the Aurora and Celestia haven't used them in a while and wanted to see them again... and didn't realize they were on the Zaruzara base because I read through book 12 too fast first time around. Loved those Guns from the first I saw them in the attack on Takar. <pew><pew><pew> (^^,)
I think we will see few nobles from PC send few war ships to core worlds and the alliance. Mean while tug's people will start and unlock technology of the data ark. We will see him personally build new shipyard for his alliance use in PC. That will use this new technology.
Then we will see them back on Zaruzara base talk about what to do with Celestia and Aurora. They will start there new retro fit of ZPeds, Armor, shields and new plasma weapons on them. Then whats left of battle plateform they will take and turn maybe wing of it into super battleship or two of them.
Mean while the spy is at work prepairing for other attack on tanna and earth and prepairing to send agents to PC on ship returning there.
Then we will see time skip like half year to year or two years at max.
Newly built war ships from PC will come. Then new shipyard is in orbit over earth along with battle satellites. Basicly technology from data ark that will allow them to put new weapons on satellite that will be all over Earth and other key areas.
Then alliance takes the war to core worlds as the jung prepair to invade at this time earth again and tanna at once due to the spy.
Jung finds nasty new suprises for them at earth and Zaruzara base and new battlespace station (center part of battle plateform) and battle satellites. And of course they have spies on Aurora and try and kill nathan during the a fight. Some new member of bridge crew.
What do you think?
I think some young Terrans are going to approach a Ghatazhak because they want to join the alliance navy. I have to look up how to spell Ghatazhak every time I want to use that word. Can't pronounce it either.
I spell it wrong every time as well. (Gah-tah-ZHAHK)
i think your right. I think we could maybe see rebuilding of Academy as well. That will help vent spies out and help get ready those who want to enter the space navy and maybe there own police force(earth bound) and the Marines. And maybe earths own version of the Gah-tah-ZHAHK.
Not sure if it was mentioned but if the BP foldwarped through the Karuzara would that be a power drain on the BP? Having to displace all that rock? Would the Warp field cover the entire asteroid? If not does that mean that a cylinder of the asteroid would end up 25-30 KM out of sink with the rest of it like what happened to the Jung Battleship in Ep10? Did the Admiral think of that eventuality? Might be nice to have someone tell him (O.o)
Cannot wait from more Episodes!!!!
Does the Celestia get more cannon's in stead of living quarters in its forward third??? Or do you want to put bigger mega cannons into its flight decks... don't need all that space for fighters.
Station the Jump falcons on the Karuzara & The Aurora. And I would have them operate from both. Move Major McCallum? to the Karuzara.
Hmm. Reading Aidan's post, I am thinking of a tunnelling missile. Just shoot it through an enemy big ship, to displace a cylinder of material. That should be pretty disruptive.
yep I am Jonesing for another fix of Frontier saga, I cannot wait I have not found another good read yet!!! I have read everything good in my library sigh.... I guess I will have to reread something( I have already read Ryk's books twice).
Yep put bigger Cannons on the Celestia turn it into a gunboat platform. They need to build a bigger version of this ship turn into a battleship.

I have to say I'd love it if Ryk gave us an ep13 Xmas present. I can't wait. So many routes the story can take.
I like the idea of re-cycling BP arms.
WRT rail-guns, isn't the velocity limited by rail length?
If so, take two BP arms weld them together and install a couple of full length rail guns.
With a ZPED powering a 15,000 meter long rail-gun .75c or better should be achievable.
At 15 km long it would not be very nimble, but don't get in front of the business end.
Are you proposing turning the arms into combat ships?
Potentially very potent but how do they control, protect, power or propel them? Seems almost as big a job as building new ships from scratch.
Are you proposing turning the arms into combat ships?
Exactly, they already have thrusters, re-use those. Add a ZPED, jump drive, control systems, and really big rail guns.
Now for the fun, currently we use depleated uranium as amour piercing rounds, what happens if you launch an enriched uranium lance out of a rail gun at say half light speed. If the Jung shields stop it, it wads up and goes boom. If the shields don't stop it, it wads up going thru the hull and goes boom. All the neutrons and other radiation will still be carrying the .5c velocity, meaning that the Mev would be off the charts.
