Imagine 100 Ghatazak (sp?) in jump-capable, powered-exoskeleton, space-jump suits. They could literally go anywhere they want, using the power of the suits. THAT would be super badass!

I bet they would jump inside the shield perimeter on a Battleship without a second thought.

The Ghatazak don't jump - they stand still and the universe jumps around them.
When Lt. Telles does a pushup on the cargo deck, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Aurora down.
The Jung wanted to surrender, but the Ghatazak needed some exercise, so they wouldn't let them.
The Jung on Earth didn't fight when the Ghatazak landed. They just spent their last few minutes carving their own tombstones.
The Ghatazak can cut through a hot knife with butter.
Planet Mars is devoid of life because the Ghatazak looked at it as they flew by.
Lt. Telles' tears can cure cancer. Unfortunately, he never cries.

I can play that game too... 😉

When Lt. Telles was born, the only person who cried was the doctor. Never slap Lt. Telles.
Lt. Telles wore sunglasses to protect the sun from his intense gaze.
One stare from Lt. Telles can kill 200 men.
Lt. Telles CAN escape from black hole.
Black Holes cannot escape Lt. Telles.
Lt. Telles can strike the same lightning twice.
Lt. Telles once uppercut a horse...that horse is now known as the giraffe.
In Harry Potter, they say "He who shall not be named". They are refering to Lt. Telles.
Lt. Telles can drown a fish.

@Hans Ruopp: By definition, dynasty simply refers to the situation where rule is kept in the family, such as by passing power to their son or daughter. Due to this, dynasties tend to be fairly common throughout the world and thus it isn't enough evidence alone to say that they are Asian for that reason.

The idea of a jump suit is interesting. However, there are probably a number of limitations. The jump radation likely means that it eems like an armored suit would be needed to handle the jump radiation, which might limit how often it can be used safely. It's not safe, for them or anyone around them, for a person to carry a nuclear or antimatter power pack on their back. Therefore, it probably will be rather limited in how many times the suit can jump as well as how far it can jump. On that matter, there is also a question of what is the minimium distance that can be jumped and how much power would be needed. A minimium jump is probably needed as it seems like a bad idea to jump an inch or two. A key flaw with a standard jump suit would be the rather bright flash that occurs at the start and end locations of the jump, it's not very subtle. Therefore, how a jump suit would be used is depends on the min and max distance (both in terms of max distance single jump and max distance that can be traveled via multiple jumps) that can be jumped, how many times it can jump (varies depending on how much power is used for each jump) and if the jump flash can be suppressed.

Dishonored's Blink power might be a good example of what a rather short range very high precision jump suit with the jump flash completely surprised might look like when used. While Dishonored is rated M, I managed to find this nonviolent video of the Blink power being used in a parkour manner. I'd imagine a jump suit's HUD would use a similar method to determine where you wanted to jump, while automatically adjusting the jump distance to ensure the suit doesn't jump inside of things, and would likely allow for jumps of varied rather than fixed distance, as well as likely allowing for much longer range jumps.

As you said, by definition but please consider that in the Western countries no one use dynasty to refer to UK royal family or French or German families. The term dynasty, as far as my knowledge goes, was only used to refer to Chinese families ruling there.

I can be completely wrong but even if some author had used it in one of it's publications I would like to know if it's commons sense to refer to ruling royal families in western countries as dynasties.

I don't think either that Mr. Brown went that far in words definitions (it was for sure not his intent) he's not writing a history book and words should be understand as common knowledge not dictionary one's.

I don't think we should try to read each word definition in a dictionary but just understand it as it's usually used in a day to day basis. If we do that we'll have to question every sci-fi tech Mr. Brown present us and that well have to discuss Physics, engineering, maths and so on.

And sorry to say but at common knowledge (as far as i know) only the chinese rulers were referred as dynasties. Do you have any other rulers family that history refers as dynasty too?

@Hans: A royal dynasty refers to the members of a royal family tree whom have actually ruled, rather than the entire royal family. Here is a list of dynasties for Europe. However, I'm thinking the preference is to use the family name if it is known as it contains more information than just saying "the dynasty that rules from the year X to Y".

That being said, you may very well be right that Mr. Brown had the same view on dynasties as you, but he may not have and that was my point.

The Hapsburg dynasty comes to mind. In fact, I think it rivals or surpasses the Chinese in its length. When you think of the Holy Roman Empire, a Hapsburg was in charge. In case you wondered, the Roman Empire was the "First Reich", and the Holy Roman Empire was the "2nd Reich"...

On the opposite end, what about a jump drive equipped space dock?
Didn't Abby say a few episodes back that size doesn't matter if you have enough power and emitters.
With a mobile ship yard, you could park it close (but not too close) to the next campaign, say 6 light months, and be capable of fixing battle damage quickly.

I'd like them to come up with a flashless jump drive for the falcon. Nice to have...

I think the next thing they need to come up with is a comm drone with a ZPED powered jump drive.

Ofcourse it will be very expensive and invaluable to the alliance but unfortunately Nathan will eventually use it as a (ZPESLKKP) = zero point energy super luminal kinetic kill projectile. Lol 😀

@Glenn~
That would be a great idea... just put a few thrusters on it or an asteroid like Karuzura near Corinair. Thrust in the general direction you want to go and jump... Or in Karuzura 's case, use one of the space tugs they would use to bring it closer to Corinair for final mining instead of thrusters... You can also retrofit the Jung platform they left at Earth... 😉

@Glenn~ and @EricG~: A mobile shipyard would be useful, especially if emitters were added to asteroids to supply the shipyard with raw resources. The downside is that it would use a lot of energy generation resources and emitters that could be used to make other jump capable things, like comm drones. Therefore, it seems like it'll be a while before it's used, but there definitely seems like a benefit to have mobile shipyards and manufacturing, which is probably easiest to do if they are jump capable even if their effective FTL speeds are low.

@Blitz: I was going to say that it wouldn't make a good KKP because the Jump drive means that it doesn't have to have a very high top speed, but then again it probably wouldn't hurt to add the Jump drive to Takaran ZPE comm drones. The benefit is that the Jung don't have ZPE, so they are unlikely to have powerful enough engines to catch up with the comm drone. The result is that that even if the Jung manage to damage the jump drive and engines of the comm drone, they still won't be able to obtain the jump drive tech as they won't be able to catch up to the drone to salvage it. The downside is that the drone becomes a KKP if it hits anything. Oh and it's not superluminal unless the drone perhaps jumps through something or it has both FTL methods. Therefore, ZPEJCKKP (Zero-Point Energy Jump-Capable Kinetic Kill projectile), or just ZJKK seems better as it avoids a lot of exceeds characters. Although, it does seem more more like the start of a designation number for them, such as "ZJKK-1" and "ZJKK-2" for the first and second production versions (same idea as F-16, F-18, and F-22).

A KKV powered by a ZPED would have enough energy to wipe out all life on a planet. The only thing the jump drive would do would let it jump to a system it wanted to fire at then have it jump into FLY at 100 times light anything like a ship or a planet, or a shipyard would be dust. (The planet wouldn't be dust, but it would be in a very bad state) Also the debris field from that impact would be expanded across a lot of light years. But hey most of the debris would be small particles.

And then give AI powers to that ZPED powered KKV drone, and the ability to replicate itself, and you end all life in the galaxy, one system at a time... It might be interesting to find a region wiped out by such devices. Not the whole Galaxy, but a large region of the galaxy. Call it "The Badlands"?

What else will make its appearance in the next cycle of 15 books? A physical hurdle for the crew to deal with, such as The Badlands? Aliens? Another rogue human empire, larger than the Jung? Robots? Whales in giant tin cans?

@Eric Nay How about an alien race bent on creating order in the galaxy using genetically bred warrior race to enslave all other races. Oh they also can be able to change their shape at will...

You know, it strikes me that we are seeing the start of differentiation in what it means to be human, here. We have one obvious genetic differentiator, and that is resistance to the plague virus. We have another, more subtle differentiation marker, and that is pain reaction to nanite activity. And of course we have the Ghatazhak, who are mostly human, but with enhanced abilities and "programming," whatever that means.

I wonder if Ryk may be laying down the breadcrumbs for the next trail we may go down, with post-homo sapiens branches coming into conflict. Homo Ghatazhak?
