Bought this at 11pm Thursday night and finished in around 6am Friday morning. I only got three hours asleep before work but it was worth it. Great book couldn't put it down.

They just keep getting better! More detail in the book... Now we know where the name Jung came from.

Great read, Ryk! Thank you!!!

.............. Spoiler stuff below .................

I did wonder about a couple things as I read through the book.

The cover looks like a defender class ship to me, but not clear to me what the connection this cover is to this episode. Was it a Jung battleship instead?

I kept thinking those Takaran ftl message drones modified to act like torpedoes would have been a good weapon to use against the battle platform... but they seem to have been forgotten or was there some reason they would not work?

Yeah jim, that was one of my thoughts as well, why not use those KKVs on the Battle Platform. There was definitely enough time to assemble them and the platform is large enough that it shouldn't have been too difficult to target. Personally I would get something like a fast combat shuttle with a jump drive that can be equipped with the most powerful shields they can fabricate. Then the shuttle jumps in close-ish, maneuvers a lot near the target, then jumps away just before impact.

I got the impression they didnt have any KKVs with them. Which is obviously a major mistake on Nathan's part.

A couple of answers, all without giving anything away. First, the cover. Take a look at the shape of the missing portion of the ship's bow. Same shape as the forward section of the Aurora.

KKVs: They had 3 Takaran Comm Drones when they left the Pentaurus cluster, all with ZPEDS installed. They took the ZPEDS out and used them for experiments on supplementing the jump drive on the Aurora, then used them to make the increased range jump shuttle to get word back to Takara and to get the data cores to safety. The result: Nothing with which to make KKVs out of.

Why no other survivors from the Jar-Keurog? The only people wearing pressure suits were the attackers (Jung) and the Ghatazhak. And since the Jung don't surrender, they also don't care about escape pods. They fail, they die. (Is there any better motivation?)

Always keep in mind that you have to have something to make something. Even with fabricators, you have to feed them. And you can't just feed them rocks. They need specific materials. All this takes manpower. Manpower requires food, water, facilities, etc... Even if you have access to them, it takes time to get them. Time to make everything happen. And you don't always have the time you need, so you do what you can, with what you have (or can get/make) in the time you have. It's all quite complex and takes lots of planning to make happen. (Ask anyone in logistics.)

One of Kovacic's favorite expressions: "No toilet paper? No war. You can't fight when you can't poop."

All else will have to be answered in the books.

Thanks all,

Ryk

Yes. Tantor has purchased the audio rights to the remainder of the episodes of part one. Unfortunately, they cannot produce the audio version until I have a final manuscript, so the audio version will always come out well after the Kindle/Print versions. There's not much I can do about that right now. Hopefully in the future, I can figure out a way to get them all out simultaneously. However, I do send the manuscript directly to the Jeff (the audio talent) the minute its finished to give him a leg up on getting started.

Just curious-if I use Amazon Prime to 'borrow' the book, and then purchase it later, does Ryk get paid twice? I have a few days left in May, and I haven't borrowed a book this month. I was thinking this way I can give him a tip.

Yes, $2 for the loaner give or take. It is in an older thread around here.
