So I'll admit that when it looked like Nathan had finally lost, I was satisfied. Sometimes the hero needs a mortality and reality check. I would have been a bit happier if the 402s had arrived too late to save the day. No one wins everytime and honestly it might force the character into accepting than the war with the Jung is a war of annihilation and cannot have a negotiated peace.
Don't get me wrong, I was heart broken when it looked like Loki, Josh and Telles were dead..as well as the apparent destruction of earth, but..we are over due for some failure and the lessons that will teach our heroes
Victory? Maybe. Earth got hammered. Many Terrans would not consider it a victory.
We don't know just how pyrrhic the victory really is just yet, but we have the premise that Earth and the Sol system are a "crown jewel" for all humans. As several folks noted, who knows what assistance and cleanup tech could be had from Tug and the PT cluster, especially once they hear about the latest attack and devastation Earth has suffered.
I also think this could be the catalyst that Tug needs to get those ass clown nobles to react and send real forces to support the alliance!!!!!
Hurry up Ryk, inquiring minds (addicts might be a better description lol) need to know!!!!!!!
I eagerly and impatiently waited for episode 11. Just finished it and now await episode 12. I think Frontier Saga would make a great miniseries on the Sci-Fi Channel. Much too intricate and involved story line with multiple characters and subplots to compress into a single movie. Keep it up, Ryk!
Jumping Rebel(Karuzari) Rock and Yamaro Rock to the Sol sector is the only way the Alliance will be able to win. They need to produce simple ships with big weapons to take down the super battleships quickly. At first, I wouldn't even try to free conquered systems. I would simply jump to a system, destroy all Jung ships then jump out. Unless, there is a rebel network already in place that can easily take the planet.

I'd try to free Alpha Centauri since they are a recent victim.
Waiting for episode 12 I decided to reread all 11 books over again. The first time I read book 11 "Born of the Ashes" I did not like it at all. Reading it a second time did not improve my opinion. Reading the series thru over the last month has made more sense of several of the sub-plots in #11 but I just did not feel it was of the same caliber and freshness that Ryk put in his previous 10 books.
Several conversations were repeated as if to give filler not to add to understanding of the story line. An example would be the exchange between Casimir and Dumar in the beginning of Chapter 2 and again in Chapter 5. The oft repeated references to the nanite therapy causing Jessica pain and the number of atrocities and justification of them by Lt. Telles. The pacing of this book just felt off when compared to the previous books. I found myself skipping whole pages because I was not learning anything new just re-reading material that had been covered before.
As a side note note I do not want to start an argument regarding Lt. Telles' actions. I served 20 years in the Navy and two tours in Vietnam. War sucks and things must be done. I get that. I think my only objection to all of his actions was killing the Major with a knife - a bit over the top - a simple energy blast between the eyes would have been a sufficient.
FYI Commander Taylor's title while she is command of the Celestia should always be Captain a Navy tradition irrespective of her rank. JO's would never refer to the Captain of the ship on the bridge (or anywhere on the ship) as anything but "Captain" and the XO as anything but XO. Ryk you have done an amazing job with this series and I am waiting anxiously for the next 4 books. My problems with book 11 will not stop me from reading all of the books you have planned for the future.
I agree with you Doug on both accounts, the knife felt too personal. It should a side of telles that wasn't explored later. Up until then his cold hearted cruelty was intended to be efficient examples of mission completion. I almost felt the same with the knife fight, very gladiator showmanship, but I understood the reasoning. And I also agree about cam being Captain. Even an army or marine captain is temporally frocked on long term deployments aboard navy ships in some navies to avoid confusion. I don't think the modern navy bothers but it's a good point.
