Just started to read Episode 1 Big Trouble is Happening.
Man, this one felt pretty short. It set up a lot of great stuff though.
My recent thoughts on Nathan were pretty much confirmed (sort of), and my original theory after ep 15 was confirmed (sort of) at the same time. Now my question is what has Tug been up to in the last seven years? I know he's supposed to be dead and whatnot, but we did see that mysterious man back on Haven a few books back and I imagine it can't be anyone but him.
Dammit now I am johnsing for episode 2! Hell of a good read and I KNEW Na-tan would be back! Ok Ryk, how long you going to make us wait!
Hmm. I'm going to waffle a bit here.
65% through it & I think I know where the books heading. Not sure if I like the way it's shaping up. A little predictable if it pans out the way I'm thinking it will 😕
35% left, I'll write again once I'm done.
Hmmm. Picked up at the end. Not quite the ending I'd thought was coming. Was a very very very quick read though.
Never saw the Zombies coming....
The ending kinda reminded me of The Force Awakens even though it was set up differently. The great hero (Luke,Nathan) appears/is revealed at the very end of the book.
The Jung attacking made me believe my original thought about glassing the jung home world was the correct course. You left a much bigger empire intact with a bull shit cease fire figuring gee we have jump drives they can't get us. Well guess what, they had a much better espionage system them earth did. I'm still waiting to see who on Earth is on the Jung payroll this time. The Jung didn't develop this tech on their own; it was stolen or given to them. It's possible someone from the Cluster did that as the Jung appear to have the software upgrades for multiple jumps. Remember it took Pentaurus cluster computers to accomplish that. Also it's time to fire the Earth force G2 because Earth didn't have a clue about all that ship movement. That is just a massive breakdown in Military Intelligence.
If the earth would have simply destroyed the Jung industrial potential on the other worlds, and because of the limited speed the original Jung FTL drive had, the Jung would have not been able to coordinate a successful attack on Earth especially since Earth defense was as built up as well as it was after only 7 years.
On a more pleasant note, the book read well and the story was exciting. I'm looking forward to book 2 for some more answers.
Don't forget Captain Dubnik (??) got off with a jump drive in Episode 15.
I must admit I wasn't happy to have missed the execution of the original Captain Nathan Scott. I would have liked to have been there with him at his final moments.
I also felt that Connor was being touted too much for the first half of the book. I then immediatly suspected him as being the clone of or the real Scott rescued from the Jung but with his mind fried when the former princess ta'akar dropped the bomb on jess (did she imply that the alliance got the original body back from the Jung???) But sure what harm.
I read the book in 3 days a third each and I got over my initial dislike of the clone idea by day three.
I would love some more explanation as to the protector class
I would love to know if the Jung movement in the Sol sector is a ploy by lord dumkin in the PC to get Sol to wipe out the Jung leadership there.
I would love to know when we will see reaction the Alliance people when cap Scott says hi
@gbrown740 I have a theory that Lord Dusahn "Ruler of the Pentarus Cluster" is Captain Dubnik. I always think Dubnik had a link to the Jung i think he's now reestablished that connection and in the process given them or at least the ones in the PC Jump drive.
I personally don't think the Jung in the SOL Sector have Jump Drive.
So Connor is a Clone of Nathan, there is another Clone on Darvano, and i don't think the Jung actually Executed the Nathan, they may have staged the event, but i think they kept him alive.
Well, that was certainly one of the most interesting episodes of Firefly Frontiers Saga I've read yet. (Seriously, I did appreciate the Firefly tribute, which I didn't realize was fully "on" until the confrontation with Siggy. And after saving a couple hundred passengers, I guess they really are Big Damn Heroes.) And as befits the first episode of a new saga, it ends with the usual quota of cliffhangers.
@palmer, I think you make a couple of good points in your post, particularly about Capt. Dubnik. I'm not completely sure whether you're right about the Jung in Sol sector or not - if they're not using jump drives to magically appear and disappear in between star systems, what *are* they using? Cloaking technology? But the two groups of Jung *are* using vastly different strategies and tactics.
It seems kind of a shame that Ryk spends several months on each of these, and I devour each one in a day. 🙂 Though this time I really did need to reread it to pick up on some of the clues of what was happening with Nathan's DNA.
I really liked how you set up this first episode. Sure, it was mostly getting all your chess pieces into position to attack the enemy forces, a lot like the opening in a chess game, really. And, even though this isn't particularly exciting overall, it's probably a badly needed base for the parts to come, which I'm very much looking forward to.
Despite the lack of epic battles and all the other fireworks you seem to put into a novel, Ryk, I found this one had enough excitement to stand on its own, even if the "battles" were minor ones and none of our beloved characters have been killed this time. And I also liked how our heros from Part 1 developed. Jessica adopting Ania and becoming one of the Ghatazhak. Josh and Marcus still staying together like father and son, working on a ship jumping through their part of the galaxy. Loki being married and a father to boot, Deliza and Yanni being married, too. And, of course, Deliza having founded a big corporation that she named after her late mother.
The ending, though, surprised me somewhat. Not the part about Captain Tuplo being Nathan, I kind of suspected that ever since his lack of memory got mentioned, but the fact that both Marcus and Josh were in on the ruse. (Just what is it about Tuplo's earliest memory of having lost his ship in space?) I wonder if Nathan has been brainwashed or whatever to keep his beard and hair as messy as possible so as to not be recognized by anyone, or if it was a choice of his. Of course, Tuplo's true identity also explains why Marcus is so fiercely loyal to him and tells Nelli off when she openly speaks of mutiny. Somehow, though, I think that Nathan's character isn't quite the same any more. When has Nathan ever played it 150% safe? Sure, Cam might have rubbed off on him, but not that much.
What kept me going - and wondering! - throughout the story was this, though: What are the Jung up to? And is it all the Jung - which I doubt, giving the title - or just a faction of their society? The latter option would explain why the Jung ambassador had no idea what was going on. Or was he lying?
In any case - when will you release Ep 2? 😀
Just started reading 20% in and wow. Very very very disappointed. Literally this is the first time i have posted anything before i finished a book. What the hell have they been doing for the past 7 years? I get it's a suprise attack, but no ground or air forces, ground or orbital defenses. No other ships but the same damn battle ship that has been there and doesn't even belong to them. Same with the takaran system?!?!?!?!( which some may argue that their orbital shipyards were damaged in the last books. Still its fiction. Add ships Ryk). This book is short so it i hope it gets better and soon. Still haven't gotten to earth or what they are up to but i had to say this regardless of what else happens. From how proud the corinarians were about what little military they had makes absolutely no sense that they have done nothing in 7 years!! Very disappointed Ryk.
