The Dune Movie was 3 hours when a 3 Hour movie was unheard of.

If you were able to make a short pilot maybe the first battle with the Jung and jump across the galaxy. You could use it to get crowed funding and show a company like Netflix people are interested.
I would happily donate and heaps of people who like science fiction would most likely drop a dollar or two.
If it ever does happen just don't let it end up in the hands of those that would pull a firefly and run.
