To date we've seen three sectors of space in the Frontiers Saga (the Sol sector, the Pentaurus Sector, and now the Jung Sector). The one sector we've seen described in detail (the Sol Sector) has been described only in the terms of a sphere of space measured outward from Sol with a radius of 50 LY in every direction. But, is that the normal size of a sector? And wouldn't measuring a sector in the a shape of a cube rather than a sphere make more sense on navigational charts? I would assume a spacefaring civilization would divide the galaxy into a standard of cubes 50 LY or maybe a 100 LY in height, width, and depth for ease of navigation.
We have not actually defined what a "sector" is at this point. Remember, the people of Earth are just becoming a space-faring civilization. The Jung probably have different ideas of what a "sector" is, as do the Takarans.
Thus far, I would say that "sector" has been used more like the word "area" than as a term defining a universally accepted measurement. Undoubtedly, that will change in the future, but I expect that the term will continue to describe different values for different civilizations.
