Joe, the Lost Fleet series is just ok, I've read then all up to Steadfast. I will not purchase anymore until Penguin decides to bring the prices down to a reasonable level. That series just isn't worth 11-13 dollars apiece.I'm reading Battlecruiser Alamo now, just started on book 3, liking it so far.

If you guys haven't read the Exodus series by Doug Dandridge I would very highly recommend it, very good reads. I rank it right there with Ryks Frontiers Saga of series I very eagerly anticipate.

Oh yeah, also the Alarm of War series by Kennedy Hudner, only 2 books so far, but I really enjoyed them.

I just finished The Martian by Andy Weir. Took me less than a week to read that one. Great book and I'm looking forward to the movie.

Now the hard part: what do I read while waiting for Episode 13?

I've read the first installment of Omega Force, and it ended really corny. Started the second book, and all I can think about is the A Team. I don't think I'm continuing that series.

Oh, and just to stay on topic. I recently read the wandering engineer series by Chris Hechtl. Slow but a good read.

I enjoy Jack Campbells (John G Henry's) Series "The Lost Fleet" and the spin of Series "Beyond the Frountier" and "The Lost Stars", his Earlier work is also quite good.

Also
Kevin J Anderson - Saga of the Seven Suns (also recent continuation Sage of Shadows)
Ian Douglas - Star Carrier
Peter F Hamilton - Commonwealth series (Starts with Pandora's Star)
B. V. Larson - Star Force

I highly recommend "Wired" by Douglas E. Richards and the sequel "Amped." I'm in the middle of "Amped" and am really enjoying this series (does 2 books make a series?).

I have to very highly recommend Sara King's works. Her latest, Fortune's Rising, would be a good place to start. It's the most kickass sci-fi book I've ever read, excluding the Frontiers series and episode 12 especially. Her Legend of Zero series is also incredible and probably familiar to many of you, but all of her books available on Amazon are great reads, and she very prolific and claims she can publish 4-6 books a year, and tries to do just that.

Also the Koban series is one of the best sci-fi series I've ever read.

Peter Hamilton's works are great, especially Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained duology.

Of course, Iain M. Banks Culture novels are must reads for every sci-fi fan.

Anyone reading the Sol Shall Rise by G.P. Hudson? its on KU and i started it while waiting for other books, i think Ryk has ruined Jump drive tactics for me, or at least poorly devised and executed use of it.... I dont want to give much away if anyone is reading, right now i am pushing through because i like other parts of the story, but at one point i actually said to my self at the captain in the book, "Jesus dont you know anything about jump tactics!" and then i realized that i dont really know anything about jump tactics, since they dont really exist... anyway just wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts!
Thanks!

Jump Tactics 101:

1) Jump in, 2) (insert idea here), 3) Jump out.

This was not the correct forum to post this! Please see the other forum on jump tactics!

Also read the new Jack Campbell, The Lost Fleet, Beyond the frontier (but not really), Leviathan. I like the series. I think that this particular book could have been better... I don't know how... but it should have been. I think it was the weak scheming of the "enemy" that frustrated me with this book. AI in warships was scarier in the last book "Guardian"? I'll go with that. Still looking forward to some good stories from Old Jack!!!

Oh i wasn't looking for a discussion on Jump Tactics, just annoyed with the writing of them in the Hudson Book. I have now pushed almost to the end but i am having a harder and harder time getting to the end because of the overall general lack of sound tactical thinking of the main characters... The book has some interesting ideas, but they had 30 freaking days to wait and plan an assault and not once sent a stealth probe (which they have) to scan the planet... I think its that I have become used to expecting well thought out battle scenes and well developed thought process because Ryk and a few others do it so well, that reading someone who just did not take the time to think it through fully is painful. I guess i just wanted to vent my frustration with the book... When is 14 out? 🙂

I am so sorry!!!
I thought you were saying that FS had bad Jump tactics!!!
Ya some writers are so focused on Characters reactions that they forget to have the Characters plan for sh*t.

Two more series down.. Archaea by Dain White. A bit of a firefly ripoff but good world building. Not sure if I have mentioned this one before but I am loving the Rise of the Empire series by Ivan Kal. The first book is Olympus. It is a cross between Chris Nuttall's Hard Lessons and Twisted Spaces by E.N. Abel. And whoever mentioned Larson's undying mercenaries series, Thank you. They were great!
