I'm not ashamed in saying that I'm probably reading this book series for the 3rd or forth time. I tend to reread the whole thing as the last few books have been released. I cheat of course. I listen to the audiobooks while I am at work.
I have come to realize something and I am curious. Maybe I just missed hearing it at one point, but what happens to the 100 Corinari foot soldiers that came aboard the Aurora when it departed the PC? The one's Jessica was happy to be in charge of?
Major Lost-his-son died, the few Corinari troops left split between the Aurora and the Celestia as security staff and that was that. Yeah, its been vague, but I'm happy that Jess speaks for security in all the meetings.
I would like to have them mentioned again though... you know because they really did sink into the background.
It would be nice to at least have a reference to what has happened to them since Major Waddell was killed and they were reassigned.
I think they just bleneded into the crew, helping to make it a mix of all thew representative cultures. Terran, Takaran, Coronari, Havenite, and now the newly liberated Core Worlds... That way no one has a commanding presence beyond the Terrans.
They definitely did sink into the background. I caught wind of it when the Aurora was returning to Tanna (if that is how it is spelled- I operate on audiobooks) to pick up the first big group of the people coming to man that disabled battleship. It was when Nathan says something along the lines of "I'm not taking any chances now that the Ghatagazk are gone I only have 12 security personnel on board," that I realized that nearly 100 men have completely disappeared. Some were probably moved to the Celestia, and I recall four of them dying with Jess on her second insert with Waddell. Still that is a large number of highly trained warriors going unmentioned.
Then you forget there were a few (maybe 3) Marines left, then a few were added when they found the Celestia as long with 2 spec ops.
Side note: Marines and Spec Ops were confused a lot in the recovery of the Celestia.
I think that the Corrinari troops could also have move into the Combat Jumpers as Crew Chiefs but that has not been mentioned. a few might have been reassigned to the Karuzara after the boarding.
