Is a Corinari 402 and the Falcon the same model ship?

That seems to be what is implied but perhaps not the same variant. IE: F-15A vs F-15D. It might be good to review the section where the Falcon is first introduced into the story.

My sense was that the Falcon is a 402 or a 420 (there were two variants Dumar looked at on Palee, right?).

The 402's are the Interceptors that Tug/Prince Casimir and Dumar flew in the Palee militia decades ago. (That's where they got their flight training.) They are Takaran designed and built, from back in the days when Casimir's father still ruled.

Under Caius's rule, the Ta-Akar favored large warships that carried sub-light fighters, instead of the FTL deep space interceptors like the 402s. Their fighters are derivatives (or descendants) of the 402, but smaller in size since they do not have FTL capabilities.

Those sub-light fighters were later given to the Corinairans after the Ta-Akar conquered them, so that the Corinari could protect themselves against raiders that sometimes tried to strike empire worlds. That's why they are similar in design. The Ta-Akar went on to more advanced versions, maintaining a technical superiority over them. (The Corinari were born of a necessity, their motto being to rely on superior training instead of advanced technology, which the Ta-Akar would not let them possess.)

Long story short, 402's and Falcons are the same thing. It was Nathan that named the first 402 (Tug's interceptor) "Falcon".

I know the Falcon's are older tech, BUT Imho I think they are a better made tech. They fit as a jump fighter very well. I was wondering if Tug/Prince Casmir is going to bring it back and update them? Make a newer version designed as a jump fighter with the better computers now available, newer materials for the ship skin? A newer designed fusion reactor? A newer version of the control systems? ECT:

@christh I read in book 11 that 20 Falcons came to earth. I was just speculating that MAYBE Tug would use them in the Takar empire as a fighter/recon ship, by updating the tech in them. Considering the fact that they now no longer have the ships to help out in the PC Cluster when someone asks for help.

they have a full battle group plus the avendahl in pc plus other jump ships.

the 402s were the decommissioned militia ships along with the rest of the boneyard dumar went to.
