I disagree, but only for one reason- any task that takes Ryk's mind off of getting the next book out sooner should be discouraged! 😉

I'm inclined to side with Eric on this one. It also seems like a taste of the next book would just make one want to read the next book even more. That being said, the next one is scheduled to come out sometime this month, perhaps early next month.

All shall be patient and all shall be rewarded with many chapters soon, once paid for of course.

It is really funny, Ryk is already faster at putting his books out than most other authors. Many take six months or more.

I was trying to think of authors that write fast, and only two came to mind: Isaac Asimov and Stephen King. Both could type so fast, and had highly organized brains, that they were able to churn out a massive amount of work in a fairly short period of time. Not only that, but they were able to sustain it over many years.

I wonder if Ryk is a fast typist? 🙂

@Eric:
Now I'm curious about Ryk's typing speed. Perhaps someone should create a topic for listing typing speeds. Another thing to consider is that some authors may actually dictate their novels, at least for the early drafts. And now I'm curious as to how common this is and if I read any authors that do so. I'd imagine effective speed for dictation (after error correction) could be 100-150+ words per minute. Probably also useful for taking notes.

Another thing to consider is that it seems like most authors only write part-time, and this applies even to some published authors as they end up having to do a number of things for the publisher that take up writing time or so it seems.

By the time you get into high typing speed, it is more like 'blind typing' and hardly remembering what was being written. I'm talking 80+wpm. That isn't too useful for writing code. I writing is similar.

True enough Hamsterman. It can be difficult to think faster than you can type at those speeds as well.
